This poem is about getting over your ex lover and it illustrates how long we cling to them as if they are still ours exclusively.
Why is she looking at my profile page?
Because the last time we were talking she cursed me in a rage
And she still keeps asking if I’ve found a new lady
If I’m calling her baby and does she know that I’m shady
Why does she still hold on to a chump like me?
I’m the one she said emphatically she’d never want to see
Ever again, under my skin is the desire to sin
She keeps enticing me to play a game I never could win
Over again and again but I’m past that girl
She should know all of a sudden a swift wind did whirl
No longer will I be a victim, my heart you cannot vex
Am I supposed to be a puppet responding with a reflex?
Keep writing checks that you can’t cash and watch them fade
Every relationship you have because you already had it made
You had the best of the best maybe I thought of a ring
After seduction by you but did you treat me like a king
Upon my throne lifting me up giving me my due praise
I gave you yours and even approached you without a catchphrase
So as I sit in aftermath and read another text
I ask myself why in the hell are you still calling me ex.
Let’s move on.
