This is a poem about the old couple in greek mythology that gave shelter to zeus and hermes and were therefore rewarded.

Gods Zeus and Hermes,

Pals bored in heaven,

Often went to Earth,

To find out what the mortals were worth.

In one of their trips,

Hospitality they searched,

But by most of the people,

This value was eclipsed.

Finally a door sprung wide open,

A small house they were welcomed in,

An old couple inhabited this small inn,

Baucis and Philemon were these humans named,

But they did not know that their guests were famed.

The portions of food and wine in this inn,

Were because of poverty rather thin,

But since they never finished,

The old woman discovered that by putting up with these strangers,

They had avoided a huge sin.

By wanting to sacrifice their goose,

Baucis and her husband offered more,

But the gods had seen enough,

And a wish was granted them by Zeus.

Their house became a temple,

The non hospital people were punished,

The old couple was happy,

And wished to die together when the time came.
