Inspired by certain sections of Shannon Davies’ paper titled “Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary: Transformational Anger in the Heroines of Children’s Literature”. And also by Toad’s expression of anger in the “Wind in the Willows”

Anger makes you see

Through rage-coloured lenses.

“Mary, Mary, quite contrary!”

“Stuff and nonsense!”

The Ladies Dictionary

says “Anger is unseemly

And discommendable

In all,

But more especially”

In a young lady

Who, “like a dove”, shouldn’t ever be

Angry.

When anger rises “in your breasts

Instantly seal up your lips

And let it not go forth” lest

You are called a hot-tempered creep.

Well then.

I’ll take my copy of Lady’s dictionary

And throw it in the nearest bin.

For I am allowed to be angry.

Just as long as I don’t sin.

Elegantly expressed and a rather gentle tone.
