This is a short poem about a rough, slow, unwanted transition period in the life of a friend.

Beautiful Goodbyes Holding You Back
The beautiful goodbyes of yesterday
Should not lead us astray
From what we need to do today
To live, love, learn, laugh, and play.
Life gets in the way of what you may think you want,
Events and experiences happen that may daunt
And even the most adaptable, relaxed, nonchalant
Person may feel as dependant and weak as a newborn infant.
Beginning from the drawing board is difficult enough;
Regretting choices and yearning for memories only makes it that much more tough.
Searching for romantic love is bound to bring you heartbreak.
Letting the love of your life find you allows life to take
Its course. Whatever random route you may make,
Love’ll find you and make you blissfully quake.
Looking for and finding love in family, friends, and fields of nature
Brings to the front what matters to you and helps you to grow and mature.
Gaining life knowledge from experience is what matters the most,
Where you’ve been, who you’ve met, and for what can you boast?
Learning is a lifelong process that it benefits you to keep close.
Any topic, any skill, any school, any street, anytime, anywhere,
From anybody, with any experience, what to do and when to stay clear.
Seeing humor and the positive in as much as you can
Laughing and adjusting when things don’t go quite according to plan
Admitting you’re wrong even to the most egotistical man
Is acceptable if you can laugh before your friends began.
Smile even when you are feeling fretful and down
Because grinning helps you play around.
As you learn what’s okay to want and to want what you’ve got,
You may sound like a spoiled brat a lot.
Being thankful and appreciating what’s not always hot
Can help you get through many tough spots.
Looking to the future and living in the moment sounds like small stuff
But it is lifechanging if you do it well enough.
