Finding refuge in beauty.

Lovely lillies create peaceful world

On small balcony overlooking crowed street.

Street is filled with filth that people neglected to bring to rubbish bin.

My heart is a lilly-filled balcony, so small yet so serene.

Filled with love and beauty…

But below me, around me, filth reigns king.

Around me, hatred and violence, and anger sings.

So to my lovely balcony I retreat.

Terrified but determined to find beauty.

To live in beauty.

To be beauty.

Hmmmm… I found this to be a very interesting read. But, I disagree with the idea that any heart can be perfectly serene, or filled completely with love and beauty. Even flowers have problems to deal with. Even flowers have their roots in dirt, and some flowers, like the daisy, stink. But I agree with your last few lines; I think that in order to have a beautiful life we must make it for ourselves.
    Thanks for sharing.

Very true, Adam Henry Sears. Thanks for your comments – I like the examples you gave. And I agree, everyone has their issues, their sorrows, their problems, but I guess it is a statement to what I hope for and how I create that serenity (as best as I can) within myself. It’s not a perfect process, it’s a continual journey to create peace within yourself and in the world around you.

Wow! Both of you covered what was literally just about to come out of my mouth, so might I end this comment with a :) and a \”nicely done.\”

You short poetry pieces are, I must say, always a pleasure to read. You should try to write more of them!
