Dedicated to the memory of a sixteen year old friend.

As I sit here with you,
Not wanting you to go.
I know how much I`ll miss you,
Because I love you so.

As I stroke your wispy graying hair,
That once was midnight black.
Although I find it painful,
The memories come flooding back.

Back to a much happier time,
When life was not a strain
Back to when you were so vibrant,
And could walk without such pain.

You were all that I could ask for,
As a dog and as a friend.
Your devotion never wavered,
From the beginning till the end

Now as I sit here with you,
Not wanting you to go.
You look at me with tired eyes,
That say you love me so.

I left a comment this morning and how, when I came back for another look I see it’s gone.

Great poem! Of course it is always made more emotional when you know who it is written for.

This is a wonderful poem. I know your pain and am with you in spirit as you go throught this very trying time. To lose a very loved one whom you have had for all their lives is very hard. But they will be young again and running and occasionaly they will stop and look across that Rainbow Bridge to see if your ready yet or not. Oh Just think of the joy when you do reunite again. Both young healthy and happy running and playing. They love you like no other can!!! Prayers are with you

Jan, I thought of you & Nick many times as I was writing this poem. It is very hard to lose someone, animal or human after having them for so long. But you are right,we`ll see them again.

Very nice poem and beuatifully written. To feel that for a dog is something unique.

P.S. Read my poem ‘Dearest Mum’ and other entries at poetry als a rewrite of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at Fan Fiction.

Very well written, memories of these words are heartbreaking. Sadly it is not within our control. The mystery being in the unknown, I know that a lot of faith has to be called upon to get through. Saying goodbye feels so final.
