The Devil you don’t yet know is worse than the one you do.
Assisting man with his innate desire to be worshiped as a god
Will, for you, avoid deification but surely make you rich.
Should you only create a saint you will be merely wealthy
But the good news about saints is you can find more than one.
In most theologies god is singular, with all of the dangers singularity implies
Vanity, capriciousness, and dominion may rise up before you.
If a god you do create this god will likely be a monster.
For man is centered in himself, not capable of being of himself.
The true nature of godhead, some say, is love. Your god will not be able
Feeling a need to crush, belittle, oppress, lay waste in righteous anger.
Development of saints would seem to be the wiser path.
Although this process risks a godhead bursting forth unplanned
Or worse, blooming in the minds of saints before it is reality
Resulting in your trial and suffering at the hand of one insufferable.
A lesser and yet comfortable possibility lies with the humble blessed
Those eligible for sainthood but still extensively touring.
These taste humility daily, are sorely tested and they know
Salvation may be in your hands and they will be grateful for a time.
Should sainthood begin to balloon too soon it should take some time
Giving you an opening to quickly bless another, collect the price of passage
From the first, and be positioned behind the next to nurture
Whatever grace springs forth, emergence carrying its reward once more.
At these lower forms of holiness and worship, solvent comfort lies.
Not perhaps to scale the heights of Croesus but a leather-seated Bentley
May not be out of question. On someone else’s talent it is easy to survive.
Cocooned within your virtue you’ll discover a Bentley’s fun to drive.
