Belshazzar’s sinful pride and pleasure.

At Belshazzar’s feast

The agony of Surprise reduce merriment to tears,

Mingled with Sparkling wine and fine taste,

Handwriting on the wall drowns drunken voices.

At Belshazzar’s feast,

Agony smote the playful knees,

Fear in the heart quickly sense,

All conscience stoops ill at ease.

Choke with guilty tears

The warning of solemn danger,

Came looking to find the stolen chalices,

Used for Belshazzar’s sinful pride and pleasure.

Fools in public madness seek flattery,

To interpret the writing of cunning art,

Painted silhouette weigh in scales of misery,

Blighted the forgetful heart.

Fear swept over all who saw the vision,

Curious hand writing on the wall,

Wait in leisure; show God calling for retribution,

The king and his concubines in penitent fall,

In the golden goblet wine diminished,

With the grapes of God’s wrath,

Belshazzar’s feast was demolished,

And end the lustful reign with grief.
