Loves Promise.

photo: The KD Peace Rose

On a quiet, clear afternoon,

beside a silver pool;

a lass so fair lay down and cried,

her love had played her cruel.

He’d promised her forever,

and then had gone to war;

leaving her alone to weep

a heart bereft and sore.

As she cried out all her pain,

a young man did pass by;

without a thought he hugged her,

wiped tears from her poor eyes.

Why cry you girl? he asked her,

he said with eyes so true;

I promised you forever,

that’s what I give to you.

I’ll never leave you lonely,

can’t stand to see you cry;

I may be just a poor boy,

but, to you I’d never lie.
