“Better Days Lie Ahead”

About those of us that fight or continue to fight the inner demons within us, I believe we have all had our own demons at some point in our lives. I also believe that every bad situation is only temporary,even if we don’t see the light just yet…this is one of my personal favorites as I continue to fight my own demons…

“Better days lie ahead”

Many nights filled with unresolved rest
watching an alarm as minutes slowly tick away
A mind that’s filled with toxic waste
resembles a landfill on a dreary day

Like a worn out recording
whose words echo in your head
Is there any relief in the near future
how often can one wish themselve’s dead

I know death is never the answer
but this is how a depressed mind thinks
Some find comfort in prescription drugs
others drown their sorrow in mixed drinks

Neither of these are a viable solution
like a band-aid on a cut that needs a stitch
Talking to family and friends can be helpful
through the darkness let them be your switch

Everyone fights demons of some kind
so let faith guide you and be your sword
Conquer your fears with great intent
a winning attitude will be your award

So maybe life still wont be perfect
but does perfection actually exist
Focus on what’s really important
and make your own bucket list

A dark situation is only temporary
and brighter days are within your reach
But it’s up to you to get your own ball rolling
and set into motion the words that I preach…

*Thumbs Up* There’s absolutely no point in getting too depressed when things go bad,because it is temporary.Tomorrow again the sun will rise and my cheeks will shine as I smile!

Dark words… and yes, I do believe death is never the answer… but that can often mean you have to face up to tough times, which is never easy. Great poem.

i like this, its sort of a non-traditional poem, and it touches on more than one idea. it is about faith but it is also about ambitious action. it involves a process of many different steps, which says more than other poems.

I really like this poem. I connect with it because that’s exactly the way I live my life. Everyday, you have to make the decision to be happy or to make yourself miserable, so it is really up to you. I think that a lot of people would feel like you are talking to them since this is a universal topic, whether people would apply this philosophy in their lives or not, everyone is aware of it.

i love this poem. I can relate to it very much. In reading your profile I noticed we have something in common. I also lost all my early writing about 2 years ago, everything I had ever written back to elementary> i was devasted. I am writing again, but it is difficult now to find the inspiration I once had. A beautiful poem. I can relate to this, my past was full of darkness and uncertainty, it was only in this past 2 years that i have begun to break free from the cycle of madness I was living in. Brighter days are indeed ahead of us all. Keep writing Joe, you inspire many people to move on with their lives and to look to the future.
