It’s sometimes so much more than those three little words.

I hear you behind doors

and in between thoughts.

You whisper my name.

A smokey sweetness

that devours all sense of reality.

You know my heart seeks you.

Seeks a rhythm in tune with my own.

A taste that cannot be given

to wild abandon.

Lost control

yet I am worthy of your love

that has waited so many wasted years.

The key to the door unlocked.

Still the chair remains empty.

Unloved

unresolved

in an empty room.

Stuck somewhere between the pages of my words.

Words always meant to be said.

Always wanting to turn to you

to begin.

So many dreams turned memories.

I feel you

in the time that passes between us.

It feels like love

if only I could remember what love is

in mere reflection.

I believe in you.

I believe in the honesty

that cradles the corners of your smile;

in the warmth of your inviting arms

that ache to be held.

I know assumptions betray reality.

Words align provocation of thought.

Only three can rightly say

what tongue so long has barred.

Makes the heart ache…longing for a love that’s not lost but just out of reach. Beautiful poem, Sheila, as I have come to expect.

Another gem from my favorite poet. It sounds like the person you are waiting on is not worthy of YOUR love. That’s the rub.
