A feeling of angst knowing that we are sandwiched between two unfathomable mysteries: life before birth and life after death.
BETWEEN TWO ETERNITIES
It should no longer come as a surprise to us,
When life so often just don’t make sense at all.
Always wanting to be happy yet despair lifts the mask,
And so we sink into catatonic slumber like a jackal
Intensely frenzied by the pangs of deadly hunger.
Every so often we surrender our right to know
When our strengths are sapped by the demands of the day.
‘Basta al giorno el malo d’eso’ so they crow,
And so in silence we tread the lonely pathway
Bleeding to death for lack of courage, cowering in fear.
So in anger we shout back to the eternal verities
For expecting us to know the whys and the wherefores,
When indeed we just happen to be sandwiched between two eternities.
How can we dispel these fatal illusions unshielded by metaphors?
Our only fault is to come in at the middle of the discourse.
Not knowing the beginning nor the expected end,
Thrown mercilessly into the stream of life,
There’s no pretending to have fathomed a trend.
Is it not that life is colored in stripes? Many died
Without seeing the light, not knowing what this is all about.
Sages of all persuasions climb the cragged ancient walls with all their might,
To be able to stand at the boundaries of fulsome delight.
And so has it been claimed that there blazes a dazzling light,
The source, the creative force, untouched in its awesome fullness,
The primordial stuff, the ground of being, our home at last.
