A poem inspired by my drug addicted big brother.

The opaque breath of time lingers

As bulky images of you take flight.

Blue pillars of soft sadness lined up

Build the iron house of your memory.

Raging battles among then and now

Consumes the context of my brain.

Bitterness immerses itself deep in me

As home movies play out in my head.

Movies of you caring tenderly for me

Before I knew you were about to leave.

I know I couldn’t have changed you

But I would have liked to understood.

I miss you, big brother.
