Safe radiation.
There came a flash of brilliant light across the sky,
A hugh explosion, a mushroom appeared nearby,
The ground shook and had ripples like waves,
Bikini Atoll the island had on lookers amazed.
A hot wind ripped my clothes from their back,
With a terrible sound of a whipping crack,
We stood in awe at this powerful bomb
For protection they all had sunglasses on.
Bikini Atoll had 23 single atomic tests,
From 1946 to 1958 they endured nucular pests,
So in February 1954 project Bravo the most powerful bomb,
At fifteen megaton’s three islands, vaporized, gone!
And what of the people that stood and stared,
Quite close to blast was anyone scared?
In years to come they would all die young,
From harmless radiation from a nuclear bomb.
The Bikini Atoll was the location of 23 atmospheric atomic bomb tests from 1946 through 1958.
The Bravo test, in February 1954, was at 15 megatons the most powerful bomb ever detonated by the United States–far bigger than expected. An H-bomb, it vaporized three islands and threw radioactive debris over nearly 50,000 square miles.
