The mood swings of bipolar affective disorder feel like the highs and lows, magnified, of any wide ranging temperature gauge.

Bipolar disorder rests on the waves of the sea, being dragged down by the undertow;
finally deciding to stop gasping for breath and allowing herself to sink heavily to the bottom of the ocean.
Then just as suddenly as the waves drag bipolar disorder down, they lift her up, tossing her into the sky
where she flies, looking down on everything below, feeling superior and omnipotent.
Bipolar disorder doesn’t see the changes in the weather ahead,
or the typhoon that trails behind her, wreaking havoc and destruction,
uprooting palm trees and overturning small ships.
Bipolar disorder senses the sun, setting beside her, and feels lost in the darkness, then
crashes back to the sea below with a tremendous splash.
