This is a poem about a scene in the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It is the part in the book where Ralph put a pig’s head in Simon’s paradise.

Odd,

they came to him.

An invasive black mist

swollen with the stench of evil.

The evil from the head of the pig.

Harsh contrast to the beauty that surrounds him.

It taunts him with its ugliness,

swallowing his face

their thirst satisfied.

Paradise violated with no warning,

soiling his one retreat from the unwelcome island.

The island where the savage replaces the boy

and home is lost.

    Hello Silence,

I remember reading that book last year…painful at times, enjoyable at others.

A good read (your poem); keep up the good work.

I remember also reading that book last year, overall i enjoyed it though i can’t seem to recall much of the plot anymore.

I enjoyed your poem even without remembering any of the story line. Keep up the good work.
