This poem describes all the wonderful, fascinating features of the modern Black woman.
Black women are go-getters, crowd pleasers and
Trend-setting fashionistas
We are bold, beautiful, sexy, attractive divas
Full of God’s grace and spirit
Black women are strong, proud, and independent
We are full of energy and purpose
We don’t take no stuff from anybody
We are ready to stand up and fight
For what we know is right
We are believers in justice
And a Holy and Righteous God
We exude warmth and mercy
And we serve a Risen Saviour
Some are chocolate, others are tan,
Some are brown, others are fair
We are shapely, thin, tall, short, round, and big-boned
Our hair is a beautiful shade of black, off-black, honey,
Red, wheat, blonde or whatever color we decide
Some hair is straight, others nappy, some have curly hair
Others sleek, or a combination
Black women are the backbone and support of our Black men
We are lovers of our Black men and brothers
We are mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmothers,
Nieces and cousins
We are excellent cooks and smart career women
Black women are Authors, Writers, Poets, Reporters,
Actresses, Singers, Playwrights, Admin Assistants,
Bosses, Teachers, Nurses, Lawyers, book lovers, sports enthusiasts,
And just about anything else we aspire to become
We are the future of a society
In desperate need of a strong woman
