A poem to honor fallen soldiers of the Gulf War.
If you can read my mind
If you don’t need rewind
If we freed what we bind
If we lead to what we find
If we don’t remove the men of greed
Then we won’t prove when we bleed
Now what to do when you’ve been freed
How do you improve what you need
Ask me what is wrong with me tonight
Task me with a strong pen to write
If all you men can give all of your might
All women can live without more fright
Every now and then I’ll try to replace
Somehow when we smile at every face
Celebrations in time and space
Tell the nations it’s time to race
At the end they will all be waiting
That defend the call you are elevating
But my friend all that you are creating
So why defend all this devastating
For all the bombs you drop today
For all the moms who stop to pray
And God will send them a belief
And God will end them of grief
Can God still send him another breath
Can God still defend another death
Someone chose who will attack
No one knows when he’ll be back
Lord just tell me who can I ask
Lord must hell be who planned my task
The other night I just fired off my gun
My mother might just cry over this one
Hear me mom what they still ploy
Carry a bomb but they kill a boy
I ponder why they pray under a dome
I wonder why we may plunder their home
On the phone a voice makes the order
Our only choice is to take the border
Can I cope with all they demand
Than I hope you all understand
If we die will their lands be free from
If we tie the hands of greed some
Try to reach out for another to shake
Try to teach about another mistake
What is lost in all of this pain
What’s the cost for all of this gain
If where we are we don’t belong
If where you are won’t be long
If this letter is by chance all you receive
If I never get a chance to leave
If for every frown I send some love
If you’re ever down I descend from above
If there is nothing right with this war
If you’re one thing I’m fighting for
Then something I hope you never forget
And one thing I cope with is never regret
Like all the rest I thought it wouldn’t be long
Even if their best fought it couldn’t be strong
I have waited for the warlords to end
I’ve created more words to send
With my blood and sweat I defend my home
If I could I’d let all tears end with this poem
