Boatman.

I am a boatman who helps passengers to cross river,

I use my boat across Ganges and in winter I do shiver,

Office goers sometimes use my boat on busy days,

My boat helps them during sunny days and also rainy days.

I use my boat from Bagbazar Ghat in Kolkata to Shibpur,

Other than office goers children enjoy my ride to Shibpur,

People visit Botanical garden, Millennium Park and other sites,

Other than launches my service helps them watch either sides.

I did take cricketers, officers, actors, businessmen in my vessel,

I dream about the stadiums, offices, studios in my vessel,

I never watched any match in a stadium or visited any office,

Celebrities remember me only when they are late for office.

I have even saved drowning men by swimming in water,

It happened in days when due to storm the boat did falter,

One day I will buy a fishing boat may be and earn by fishing,

My service attracts office goers but I never got any other job which I had been wishing.

Those passengers who had travelled in boats across Ganges will realize what a difficult job basically boatmen do all across the year.
They are really unwept and unsung.

The most challenging job of the boatman is to safely reach the passengers from one ghat to the other during the monsoon seasons, when river Ganges becomes turbulent and storms prevent safe riding in the traditional boats.
