After s/he says that line, your heart sinks…

Your lover tells you s/he’s not there,
You suddenly go into a panicked scare.
Then you ask what s/he means,
Then s/he starts to fill the gaps in between.
It’s all leading to something you can’t foresee,
You’re troubled on what it could only be.
Then suddenly the talk comes to a halt,
You know you’re in trouble when “It’s not your fault.”
The next words will impact you for the rest of your life,
It’s like stabbing you through the heart with a knife.
“It’s me, it’s not you,”
“I have no choice… We’re through.”
A second passes and your heart turns to fire,
A quick and painless death is your only desire.
Then you try and fix every mistake you’ve ever made,
You would even trade it for the wounds of a thousand blades.
Regret kicks in and you begin to cry,
You ask over and over, “Why, why, why?!”
The elaborate line that everyone can see,
“It’s not you at all, it’s me.”
Truth and lies stand in full view,
The love you gave was all too few.
S/he said you were the one but there was a change in mind,
Your heart is small, it’s new love s/he wants to find.
You lay in disbelief because you two were meant to be together,
Sharing happiness and fond moments forever.
People change, and I suppose feeling do as well,
How you’ll feel tomorrow only time will tell.
