Breaking News From The West Coast

 

Los Angeles unveiled the red carpet, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion,

First awards ceremony of the decade! Producers made sure it looked a million.

This ceremony took in, the highest rating of any Academy Awards,

The ABC network sent out, this two and a half hour spectacular of course.

 

Midnight Cowboy rode into town, on an x-rated trip,

When it left it had taken the best film award, away with it.

April seven saw best actress, taken by Maggie Smith,

While John Wayne won best actor, for his role in True Grit!

 

Best supporting awards, for actor and actress,

Handed to Gig Young, and Golden Hawn, because they went and won this.

Most original song, was presented to Burt Bacharach and Hal David,

Raindrop’s keep fallin’ on my head, appeared in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

 

Breaking news from the West Coast, the nominees sounded a battle cry,

But when the dust had settled, the prizes were something money couldn’t buy.

Breaking news from the West Coast, gathering the illustrious crew,

Only step forward and accept, if that’s what we’ve asked of you.

Breaking news from the West Coast, on this night of April seven,

They are holding onto their gold statues, like they had been sent by heaven.
