Autumn is a glorious and blest season here in New England and here in my home State of Vermont, despite our recent disastrous flooding, it is abundant with blessings. Read more…
BRIGHT GLORY DAYS OF AUTUMN
Though today is cold and drizzly
and I woke with a sense of dread,
I thought, No, this will be a good day
and there are glory days ahead
and even on this gray day
God’s light comes shining through…
Each day is blessed abundantly
dear Lord, when I keep my eyes on you.
The hills have changed from summer’s green
to shades of autumn’s gold and red
and the fields are ripe with harvest,
there are glory days ahead.
It is a time of plenty
with new blessings everywhere
from roadside stands, the farmer’s market
and autumn’s harvest fairs
and I know no other season
that is more richly blest
than the bright days of October
with its color and harvest.
There is a splendor in October
that is glorious to see,
the morning haze, the river smoke,
the glow of autumn leaves,
the sunshine as it breaks through
the cold gray of the clouds;
and around me fields of plenty,
so blessed, so rich endowed.
Of all the months within the year,
I think I like October best
as I see spring’s promises fulfilled
and I see how we’ve been blest.
Despite the worldly woes we face,
times of cold, drizzle and gray,
there is nothing much more glorious
than bright October’s blessed days.
