Poem, a dirge a painful lament.
The moonlight shone through the tree
through the window on to me
I fell to sleep a dreaming sigh
side by side my brother and I
casting line, hook and bait
on the river with my good mate
In the morning he was gone
yet I remain to soldier on
to live my life without my brother
to comfort and hold and love our mother
It was a sad, sad day when we lowered him down
as the piper played his dirge we gathered around
the haunting sound of the pipers lament
wailed the screaming pain of our loved ones descent
our tear streamed faces watered the earth
where we laid his coffin, his name and date of birth
How does a son depart before his mother?
How could I replace a dear departed brother?
