Her husband died years ago in a war, his body was not found so she still hopes for his return and awaits him every day with tireless eyes…
Years have have flown by but as if in a dream
It seems like yesterday you left for the war front
With a promise to return to me, sealed with a kiss
And then that day dawned the sun seemed a ball of lava
Or the sky appeared smeared with scarlet blood
The wind in the morn had restless whispers that I ignored
And then the tidings came, you were dead the words reverberated
But your body was no where to be found, and against hope
And all reasonable thinking I hoped you live somewhere
Every dawn that blossomed in refulgent hues enlightened
The hope of your return in my pining heart
And with every footstep that I heard my eyes glued to the threshold
I never left my home lest you should come and find me gone
With every dusk a hope died in my eyes that gazed still at horizons
Those dimmed, riddled with lengthening shadows with the dying day
The night passed lilke a restless interlude with dreams of your return
Mocking me in the vestiges of sleep that I could muster
My eyes were tired, but hope still iridescent in my gaze
Life was at a standstill without you despite passage of days
I grew old and grey with wrinkles but never lived
Not beyond the day that I heard of your death
I know that you will return and if not
Then life will one day end unnoticed while I embrace you
In the vaccum of cosmos filling it with unconditional love…
