Two friends who tried to net a bumble bee were stung. Unfortunately, Ted was allergic to bee stings and his parents had to call 911 when he began turning blue.

Bumble Bee you’re so mean

When I come upon you by our stream

For all I wanted was to play

- – -

I waited and waited for quite awhile

Hoping that you’d fly by

But you instead didn’t feel

That you wanted to show such zeal

- – -

What I did instead

Was to try to trap you with Ted

But you flew around us as if mad

I could see that you were bad

- – -

Once we raised our net

Much to our regret

For you flew straight towards us

- – -

There you stung me on my eye

Ted too, nearly died

For he was allergic to bee stings

Since he was stung

On his thigh

- – -

We dropped the net and ran along

And before long you were gone

Ted began turning blue

And his parents called 911

Just a couple of more months of winter and it will be time again for bees and wasps and things. I enjoyed the poem – it is like a short story in a rhyming verse.

I was stung…by a grumpy looking bumble bee when I was a child. I remember crying and having a lot of ice cream that day.

Nature has her ways of protection. I trod on a bee once and couldn\’t wear a shoe on that foot for about a week because it had swelled up so much. Their stings really hurt, but it can be much worse for anyone allergic to them. Great poem. I liked the caption underneath that beautiful photo too.

Moral of the story, don’t mess around with bees. My brother was once stung by hornets. Are they bees?
