This is one of my many poems from my book, "Versus From The Hollow Grounds". It is titled buried and is about waking up in a coffin and not knowing if I am dead or alive, or maybe even stuck in between…
Buried
Thump, thump, and another thump I hear above me
Can’t move, its pitch black and I try looking around but can’t see
Feeling claustrophobic nothing but death surrounding
Suddenly the thumping stops and I loudly scream
Is this a nightmare just another bad dream?
Paralyzed I feel something terrible happened recently
I’ve awoke in a casket, my mind breaking into insanity
Buried six feet deep alone stuck in this box
Nothing around me but maggots, worms, dirt and some rocks
Oh and let me mention the other corpses in their own coffins with locks
Am I really dead or was I buried alive, was it a mistake?
If I’m truly deceased why do I feel so awake?
Shouldn’t my soul be at Gods gold gate?
Or is this my punishment, my eternal fate?
