The world today has dark secrets, who asks why? Who wants change?

But it’s for freedom….

Just fifteen and a brand new mother
Left alone to play at being grown up too fast
A small babe dead after being smothered
In jail, she’ll see just 4 years pass
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

He grew up in middle class style and dreams
In his grandfather’s steps he marches
To parents, young wife and new baby it seems
To have him lowered in the ground as the soldier watches
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

She is thin, pale, and wears bruises no one sees
A father’s touch to rough and harsh for love
No matter how hard she tries, she can’t please
But to safety she’ll fly on the wings of a dove
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

A hard working man stands in line for a hundredth time
His two disabled babies need this check
But it’s a fight that may not lead to a dime
And he can’t believe his life is such a wreck
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

No money to pay the bill so in the dark they sit
Candles and flashlights all around the room
The fire was fierce and left just a pit
The couple succumbed first to the fumes
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

They knew of the threat but did nothing
The buildings fell and so did the tears
They know of the threat and swear to do something
They fight and over come the fears
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

Twenty years have passed since his time
Jungles and boys with bombs in his mind replay
Crazy under a bridge but never one for crime
No one offers food or a place to stay
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

A school too dangerous for learning but not for drugs
Empty homes and hungry children line the streets
Those trying for better out numbered by thugs
Police too over worked to walk the beat
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

It takes pride to over come the status quo today
A fight from deep inside people to over come
They march and carry signs to get their way
They win a few and lose some
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change

For themselves, the children and their children too
But they say it’s for freedom
So who needs things to change
We the people do

This was quite powerful and intense. I like the way this one flows; the way it sounds when you read it aloud.

We the people…What’s the solution? The more things change the more they stay the same.

Thanks for all your comments… I love hearing from you all.

Guy…. I think nothing good will come of certain changes and I also feel if we sit back and do nothing it will be worse. Really I wish we could take what we know and go back.

Example: I’m trying to take a bit of the green knowledge that I know and going back to a simpler life style with my family. Not just for the Earth’s sake but because we can’t afford to live on the grid any more. Simpler is cheaper.
