A ballade poem based in the lives of butterflies.

Butterfly Ballade

Against the trials of nature’s wrath-

We survive to meet and fall in love-

Our travels cross a common path-

The sun shines bright so far above-

Now is the time to make my move-

I flutter so erratically-

Among the open fields of foxglove-

Will you fly forever with me?

You contemplate my proposition-

As my flying and fluttering start-

Attempting to win this competition-

As well as win your heart-

I wish for us to never part-

Together I long  to be-

Without you I would fall apart-

Will you fly forever with me?-

At last you give me subtle signs-

Of the answers I await-

For every piece of my being pines-

For you and I to mate-

My heart beats with alarming rate-

I almost wish to flee-

As we come to end our foremost date-

Will you fly forever with me?-

My battered old wings have lost their shine-

Our hearts our full and free-

But yours have remained next to mine-

Will you fly forever with me?-
