Poem about a man who has lost someone special to him.
Cabin Forty Nine
He sits there in front of the fireplace
In cabin forty nine
This was the cabin where it all began
He thinks back in time
This was their first getaway
They laughed and they drank wine
Twenty three years, to the day
In cabin forty nine
No wine for him this go around
He needed something with a little more bite
Cause this was his first Christmas alone
And he wanted to do it right
She had been taken from him months earlier
But she was with him on this night
He could feel her warmth, He could feel her touch
He wanted to hold his baby tight
He knew she was there, but he also knew
She wasn’t something he could reach out and touch
He never thought the pain would be so severe
Loving someone this much
He takes one more drink, finishing the bottle
Knowing it’s the only thing he can clutch
He never thought the pain would be so severe
Loving someone this much
But that’s why he’s here, to get past it
He’s ready to be taken home
His plan was to drink every drop
Till all the memories were gone
Then his body collapses, bottle shatters
Not one single memory gone
This was his last Christmas in cabin forty nine
His last Christmas alone.
