It’s a long poem, but I had so much to say.
January, the season of change
Where nothing is old, but sadness reigns.
But in a wooded wonderland it doesn’t.
No avalanches of deep snow to fail and tatter.
She is the daughter of all in her changing fate.
Day after day closing her face.
Faster or slower but never stopping.
Goddess of seasons in a world constantly changing.
February passes even and slow
Shortest month of the year that refuses to go.
Trapped in a cocoon warm and safe.
Danger becomes her in this restless state.
She is the daughter of four mothers, each one demanding.
A fantastic mystery comes for the calling.
Whispers of old friends soon to be seen again.
Her fate always changing, but never comes to and end.
March brings the hope in warm wintry airs.
Will she morn the melting show, and cast off her cares?
The choice is made, but not by her
As she witnesses the return of the blue bird.
She is the flighty heiress of all she sees,
Of the harmony of the wind and melody of the willow trees.
The gloomy days long for zeal.
Under the tutelage of her appeal.
April showers dance and sing,
Romancing everything.
The twirl of breezes carries the bliss
Of a lover hidden in a raindrop’s kiss.
Combating the memory of winter’s last stand.
Sweet goddess of nature cradles us in her loving hand.
Old in spirit but young in memory
In her legend do we believe.
May has come in a simplistic way,
To frolic and play all the day.
Never too hot, nor too cold.
Colors of bright spring, shining and bold.
She wears her springtime suit of green and gold.
Her laughter’s ego cries among the trees for the young and old.
The flower princess brings smiles with her sweet scent.
Our happiness is her greatest compliment.
June bells toll for the keeper of the wedding march.
Rice or bird seed, a trinket made upon ending the search.
Flowers are cast while toasts are made.
A bride is sold, and a groom’s debt is paid.
Keeper of lovers, she coos in delight.
Blushes and sprinkles in vanity’s sight.
Never the slave girl in the light she provides
In her will only does the season’s divide.
The hot sun of July brings summer to full circle.
Basking in the sun, our secrets unfurl.
Diving into the cool waters, laughter consumes us.
A long way is winter; our worries turn to dust.
Safe is our Keeper, dancing in the sunshine.
A melody of time keeps her sublime.
No cares has she, no sorrows to ponder.
In true bliss of ignorance she often wanders.
Cool August gives us the time to reflect
On a year full of accumulated intellect.
Depressing thoughts of winter’s return.
In our minds, now lives to burn.
At Summer’s end she longs to see
The sight of the calming sea.
Summer girl growing weary,
As the sun cools its fury.
September winds comes like a thief.
Dead are the flowers that we once carefully reaped.
Leaves change from green to yellow gold.
Our newest sensations quickly become old.
She is like the butterfly fighting futily against the wind,
Paying the price for nature’s sin.
Corrupting the air with her haunting cry,
But her pleas hold no reply.
October’s cold rapes the trembling blooms.
The treat of snow will be here soon.
Season of loneliness this fall will be.
Because of nature’s touch she changes again.
Through the nasty winds, she never bends.
She looks for the help of her woodland friends,
But they have no help to lend.
November sees the first flutter of snow.
Joyous laughter of children and memories of long ago.
We happily forget about the hot summer days.
Lazy days of beaches are a million miles away.
Thankful is our goddess shiny white and fair.
With the smell of tantalizing feasts, a sight she joyously bares.
Bounty of a harvest do mortals now sing.
Gathered in a circle, they form an unbroken ring.
December brings the promise of Christmas cheer,
Of giving and receiving to those we hold so dear.
Winter brings the promise of cold days and nights as we have said.
But here by the fire we lay snug in our beds.
She is the calender girl, goddess of all seasons.
Doomed to roam the earth for one fateful reason.
Mother nature’s child born into a cause.
Her honor and dignity will never be paused.
