Madeline is an only child in need of all of her busy parent’s attention. She tries to get herself into sticky situations just so that they have no choice but to put down their phones. She wants them to take a break from their busy lives and give her some of their time, even if it is just to punish her. Madeline lashes out her anger towards others, never caring the consequences of her actions or how it affects others.
Being sent home early was never a fun event. She had almost all of the other students screaming and crying from her behavior of taking things that weren’t hers. The teachers kept hearing “Madeline stole my nose. Madeline stole my ears. Madeline stole my lips.” How could a kid possess so many other people’s things and still have hands to grab for more? The teachers were sick of telling the other kids that it wasn’t possible for her to steal those things. Behind the teachers back Madeline pretended to still possess whatever it is she had told the kids she stole from them.
As Madeline got into her parents vehicle she put her head down knowing she was in trouble yet again. Inside the school all the kids began to cheer. They were all happy that the school bully was finally gone for the day. Madeline’s mother Caraline started shaking her head in disgrace.
Caraline begins to speak out, “How can you be so cruel to everyone around you? Do you not care about anyone else’s feelings?”
Madeline rolls her eyes and says,“You don’t get it, leave me alone. Just, pick up your cell phone and call someone like you always do. Ignore me, you’re good at it.”
Caraline snaps back, “How dare you! You are grounded. I can’t believe how you are talking to me.”
Madeline finally stopped arguing and decided to keep her head down while ignoring everyone. Caraline became angrier from the silence but continued to let it go at least for the moment.
Madeline jumped out of the car for her bedroom after her mother pulled into the driveway. Following behind her was her mother who was steamed and ready to explode. Caraline walked into Madeline’s bedroom and started raising her voice the more she talked. Madeline never responded back. After a few minutes Caraline walked out shutting the door behind her. A few moments of thinking she walked over to the children sized refrigerator in her room. She opened it and all she saw was a bottle of ketchup. As she reached for the ketchup the air around her hand started to spin in a circle. Scared, Madeline falls down after pulling her arm out from the force. Looking up at the fridge, Madeline begins to wonder where the magical force could possibly take her. She decides she has nothing to lose by seeing what happens. So, she stands back up and puts her arm back into the force. A strong burst of energy shoots through her body as she is transformed into a cartoon version of herself.
