Forever young.

I haven’t seen you in awhile
Haven’t touched that hand
I was starting to forget your smile
Like the rain fall last night
I could hear the wind rustle those leaves
Stir up new life in that line of
Beautiful, sturdy trees
Once again, I’m contemplative
Sitting, drinking in the melody
Drinking in the present moment
Remembering every perfect thought and memory
I’m free again
The wind flowing through my hair
As I cascade down that hill
No, not that one,
That one;
You can see it
It’s over there
That magnificent one, I conquered
In grade school, far late into the evenings
As days breathlessly drew to an end
The time when, I vowed to be forever fourteen
To always keep that shining, innocent child inside
And, with thoughts of the passing years, I smile to myself
For, I’ve kept my promise true
She’s never left my side
When all else fell away and beauty began to fade
When the world turned gray
And confidants suddenly left me
Aching in pain, when she and he and her
Boldly stood before me, untrue
My constant strength; it has always been she
She, refreshing, brown haired tousled, bright, brilliant smile
Who could never hurt or harm or ever turn her back,
On friend, foe, or child
She who remained believing in me loyally
She who promised to always,
Blessedly, thankfully, and unconditionally
Forever, love me
