I wonder what all those huge cats really think about when we see them at the zoo?

Life is well enough to me
I have everything I really need
my cage is wide and spacious, and I pace it to and fro.
To and fro I pace
There’s nowhere else to go

I have my water, food, and company too
Alone in my kingdom, alone in the zoo
A king in my kingdom, of cages no less
A kingdom of cages
And I’ve got the best

Many days you came to watch me
Pace my domain, as you stood freely
I roared out loud, you weren’t impressed
I roar quite loud
but not the best

I purred to ease your troubled fears
The sound was harsh upon your ears
A growl you thought I meant to voice
The growl you got
Was not my choice

As every day you passed me by
I thought of different things to try
Studying reactions that you would make
For every reaction
another was fake

When I saw that you were getting thin
I opened the cage to let you in
I was fed well enough, so I had some to share
You looked hungry enough
But you just couldn’t bear

The thought of confinement, when you were so free
Another side of the bars, you’d rather not see
The cage is still open, if you change your mind
My door is wide open
And now I find

That I’m finding it hard not to jump out myself
Abandon my kingdom, my safety, my health
But my chains are the secrets that you hold in your heart
And if I broke all your secrets
I might tear you apart
