An original poem by Aubrey Lambach.

I spattered blood across the floor,

I chipped the paint,

I turned the walls to dust.

The pipes are rusting,

The house is falling,

But will that make me stop?

I should fix it.

I should make it better.

But I can’t.

I won’t.

Ever.

I took everything you gave me

And gave it to the stained open window.

Gone.

Forever.

It sinks lower.

Its foundation descends,

Leaning to kiss the ground.

My knees fall to the floor

And my heart tastes the dirt.

It had been coming.

I should have stopped it.

But I couldn’t.

I wouldn’t.

Ever.

My bones crumble.

From strength, to dust.

Then the colors fade.

As the beating

stops

all I see is an empty

house.
