A world in poverty by Simonne Liberty.
Day in and day out inflicted in poverty
scattering for crumbs to survive
hope is lost in the struggle
life is not worth living
happiness does not exist
day in and day out
sick with no health care
homeless like stray dogs
the poor will always be with you
and compassion of the rich is measured
by how they treat the least of the least
greed, the love of money and self-love rules
and the poor are tossed aside into the
gutter of homelessness
it is more blessed to give than to receive
are words lost in the chaos of selfishness
day in and day out
poverty festers
and the rich live in luxury
equality is the act of sharing and greed is the
wall that separates
Jesus taught us to do unto the least of them
and it would be also doing it unto him
bread crumbs tossed with seeds of
resentment
is not what Jesus meant
those who hoard the bounty and ignore
the poor
will be judged for their works
they will profess, “Lord, Lord, we have done
good works”
and Jesus will say to them
“I never knew you: depart from me
ye that work iniquity”
day in and day out
poverty continues
