I think the doctor wanted to play safe.

During a recent visit to the doctor

I mentioned some mild chest pain.

But didn’t realise at the time

Life wouldn’t be the same again.

*

I was whisked off for an ECG

And booked in for some hospital tests.

For the next few weeks I was back and forth

With barely any time for rests.

*

I was told to jog on a treadmill.

Now I knew that wouldn’t be fun,

And as an overweight pensioner gasping for breath

I just couldn’t break into a run.

*

Next came an ultrasound scan

Which I thought seemed a little bit funny,

As these scans were usually for pregnancy

And I wasn’t planning on being a mummy.

*

I was then fitted with a monitor

To check blood pressure and pulse were alright,

But the machine didn’t seem to work very well

And just kept me up all night.

*

The last two tests were the worst of all

As I was filled with radiation.

Being injected with isotopes and a stress drug

Caused me pain and much agitation.

*

So now I’m back home feeling battered

And in need of a few hours rest.

The results I am sure will be perfectly fine

So I’m not getting myself too stressed.

Really beautifully expressed. Poetic and well worded. Though it is about real pains you made it so light. Thanks for the poetry in humour or humour in poetry??????

  • Suni51 on Jan 7, 2012

Oh don’t worry Christine, these are just common things these days. Please do not think much and take the pills as prescribed, all will be fine.

  • J M Lennox on Jan 7, 2012

Although it’s good that your doctor was being thorough, if I were your doctor I would now prescribe lots of rest, relaxation and pampering. It must have been a dreadful experience, but I’m sure your positive attitude will reward you with good results.

  • Val Mills on Jan 7, 2012

Oh Christine, you and I, like many around us, are becoming of that age. Please do look after yourself and take this health scare seriously. Your doctor obviously did. And here i am worrying about foor pain! Loved your poetic way of telling us about all this.

  • fragile18 on Jan 7, 2012

Everything will be fine Ms. Christine. Take care.

  • pattiann on Jan 7, 2012

I am sorry that happened to you. When I wads 29 I W’s through tests and discovered I hes congestive heart failure. But, I was lucky because it was viral which means medicine would make it go away. Thankfully it went away because they were talking heart transplanted for me. El

  • mphsglo on Jan 7, 2012

I hope all is well with you. Take care.

  • gaby7 on Jan 7, 2012

Very Sad Teacher Christine…thank God you are back home. we shall pray against the stress factors! Wish you speedy recovery and a Happy 2012!

  • janef on Jan 7, 2012

I like the poem. Hope you are feeling better now.

  • vijayanths on Jan 7, 2012

You can express anything with a poem. You are good at it.

  • LoveDoctor on Jan 7, 2012

Take good care of yourself Christine. I’m sure you will be fine.

  • MJRapp on Jan 7, 2012

OMG! I’m sure you’re okay. Doctors are overly-cautious, but I guess that’s they’re job. They sometimes do cause more stress than good. :-(

  • fishfry aka Elizabeth Figueroa on Jan 7, 2012

OMG, I am too familiar with that scene. The test the Nitro-pills which then followed a headache, the stress test etc.
But yes it is better to be safe than sorry. Unless of course your going to the emergency room. You mention heartattack and you in. At lease you ok that is what matters.

  • Prometheus Ridley Scott on Jan 7, 2012

Wonderful write, Christine. I have had those tests numerous times and they do take it out of you when checking your heart. But as you said it is time for rest. I wish you the best of health and keep entertaining us with your wonderful slants on serious subjects.

  • petercurtis97 on Jan 7, 2012

t is good your Doctor picked up the concerns and ordered the actions although difficult for you at times. The poem is well presented and we share all the imagery you pen.

  • sheilanewton on Jan 7, 2012

What a great – but terrifying – story, Christine. Loved the poetic language here. Love the way you write. I’m fascinated.

And we have so much in common when I looked at your profile. Adding you as a friend soon as I post this comment. Hope we’ll be good Triond friends.

  • darshinia on Jan 7, 2012

hang in there and take care

  • LadyElena on Jan 7, 2012

I usually smile while reading your poems, but this got me concerned. I am hoping all the tests will come back fine too.

Take Care…. Eat well, go for walks, sit in the garden, have tea with scones, go shopping with hubby’s card and bring your cute litte grandson round again, to do some dusting and singing nursery rhymes….

    Regards
    Doctor Elena

  • erwinkennythomas on Jan 7, 2012

Try to relax. Take walks and don’t worry. That too will pass.

  • Paul Roberts on Jan 7, 2012

I like your twist in this little misadventure.Brings to a pleasant lift to a stressful situation.well done. Now get off that treadmill with that laptop! No typing while jogging!

  • sloanie on Jan 7, 2012

What a wonderful Doctor you have Christine, too be saw- concerned. At leased now you know all is well.
Enjoy life and be happy and healthy in 2012.

  • Tulan on Jan 7, 2012

Christine, it sounds as if you have had a terrible time with doctors and tests. I’m afraid to tell a doctor anything, as you point out, it means tests and more tests that seem unnecessary. I hope all yours come back negative. You take care and keep us informed.

  • Erin Miller on Jan 7, 2012

That is worrisome. I admit I am no stranger to these tests either. I know how stressful they can be since I go through them daily except for the radiation treatments… Good luck with everything…

  • Hettie on Jan 7, 2012

Great poem Christine, and I believe you will overcome all this :)
