A small selection of poems for young children.
Mud Pies
Let’s play in the garden and get messy!
We’ll dig in the dirt with our hands and our spades,
Use water and make muddy pies.
We’ll see insects and spiders and wiggly worms,
Snails and slugs that will make you squirm,
What fun we will have in the outdoors today
We’ll tidy up the mess and then run away.
Peek A Boo
Peek a Boo, Peek a Boo!
Can you see me, I see you,
I’ll hide behind my fingers, peeking through a gap,
Big enough to spy on you,
Then give a little clap.
Butterfly Butterfly
Butterfly butterfly fly to the sky,
Flap your wings so high so high,
Your beautiful wings are a joy to see,
I’m happy you’ve landed right next to me.
The leaves are falling
The leaves are falling one, two, three,
Help me count them as they float from the tree,
Tell me the colours that you can see……
Red, yellow, brown and green,
How pretty is this autumn scene?
The rabbit hops in the field below
The rabbit hops in the field below,
He has two long ears and a little fluffy tail,
Whiskers that twitch at the slightest sound.
He thumps his feet upon the ground
And scuttles away to the grassy mound.
