A child play’s, off in the distance, so someone yells and screams. Trying to see if anyone is frightened. But that person rarely thinks of the aftereffects, the consequences of their actions until it’s too late.

it was him
over there
who dug that hole
with your new *aw

can’t you tell
by the deep cut
on his wrist
and the teeth marks
upon his bottom lip

but today is a different day
with a hot sun up in the sky

no digging with the saw
at least for awhile
he decided to play with his bat
something that won’t hurt as bad
when your screams
rattle his bones
and scare the child within
