I’ve overdone the chocolate again and managed to put more weight on.

Chocolate is a Puzzle

Oh no! I’ve done it again!

I stood on the scales today,

And I am utterly horrified

At how much I now weigh.

It’s happened in just a few days.

However can that be?

I know I have eaten chocolate,

Which can’t help I do agree

I ate two chocolate eggs,

Which together weighed a pound.

But I have put on half a stone

And am feeling rather round.

I thought my maths was good,

But this is such a puzzle

How can one pound equal seven,

When it’s chocolate I guzzle?

If I eat a pound of apples

They might give me stomach ache,

But I will probably weigh lighter

Than when it’s chocolate I take.

A pound of salad or green veg

Will have the same effect.

Why is it scrummy chocolate

So many calories does inject?

I know there’s just one answer

I’ll have to cut down on my food,

Which is truly quite annoying

As I’m not really in the mood.

But that beach holiday is beckoning.

I just have to take control,

And forget that I love chocolate,

If I’m going to reach my goal.

Wow! Christine,I didn’t know that you love chocolate so much. But I can see why, the chocolates in England are exceptionally good. So watch that sweet tooth and carry on your dieting program. You’ll reach your goal. A very enjoyable, great and funny poem.

Ugh! I feel the same. Far too much chocolate but I can’t resist. An enjoyable look at the problem.

  • Alicia Wind on Apr 15, 2009

  • Ruby Hawk on Apr 15, 2009

you can do it Christine, just put away the chocolate and get out the apples. It will work everytime.

  • Daisy Peasblossom on Apr 15, 2009

I love chocolate, too. I’ve quit buying it unless I’m actually in the store; and then only one small bar. Since I only go shopping once a week, that seriously cuts down on my sweety consumption.

    Love it!

    Brilliant work again!
    Chocolate can definately be
    an evil food.
    Tempting us with its greatness,
but being the worst with putting on weight!

  • Eunice Tan on Apr 15, 2009

  • Christine Ramsay on Apr 16, 2009

Thanks everyone. It is so hard to resist. Here in the UK there are so many lovely chocolate goodies. I wish they were not so accessible.

There is nothing mathematical about weight gain. How is it possible that when I gain 20 pounds I go up 4 dress sizes, but if I lost 20 pounds, I only lose 1 size.
Chocolate comes from a bean, so that would make it a vegetable, right? And when it comes in the form of a rabbit, wouldn’t that make it a meat?

  • Luffy12 on Apr 17, 2009

one of my favorite food! thanks

I have eaten too much too and feel for you. I like the way you put events in your life into poetry

  • Christine Ramsay on Apr 18, 2009

I have just stood on the scales and found I have lost five of those seven pounds already. I guess if you put it on suddenly it can come off suddenly. Only two more to go. Thank you all for your support.

  • Nemo P. on Apr 22, 2009

    Very nice!
The beginning is funny “Oh no! I’ve done it again!”, I liked it!

  • Caroline1957 on Apr 25, 2009

Lovely poem, I am going to print it and put it on the fridge ,so that I will enjoy the poem and not the chocolate.

  • Nikita K on Aug 29, 2009

Mmmm…there are so many things I love about this poem. Firstly, the title. As a chocoholic, I didn’t think twice about clicking this. Secondly your word choice like “scrummy” just makes me so hungry for chocolate. And after I read this, I’m actually starving for some choccy! I think I might go and get myself a spoon full of nutella after reading this delicious poem!
