Brief reflection of thoughts after learning of a realitve’s passing.
My heart weighs heavy today …For my Aunt has passed away
Death may make us remember how mortal we are
And fear that ours may not be far
Is it death we fear, or just the lack of life?
Or is it the unknown that we contemplate with strife?
How do we measure life, when other say,
“(He/She) had a good life; I guess it was their day”
What exactly is good, I want to know
And is anyone really ready to go?
Some must suffer, while others go quick,
What would we do if we had our pick?
What would we say, where would we go
To whom would we talk, and what would we show?
As the feeling of vulnerability takes its hold,
The reality of the unknown takes its toll.
Should we hug more, laugh more or play more today?
Or ignore the thoughts and go our own way?
There are just so many choices in life
And it’s up to us to determine what’s right.
There’s been a death, for this we shall grieve,
But it’s up to us to figure out how our lives will be.
