Some persons choose to live a life in prison where they can get meals, a roof over their head and medical attention. They know that by having a felony it will be most difficult for them to find a job.

The situation in our prisons

Are sad

Incarcerated are

Some of the worse offenders

With the nonviolent

- – -

There are those

Who should be treated

In a psychiatric hospital

But in many cases

That never happens

- – -

Instead of being homeless

And living on the streets

Some figure they can get

Three meals a day

And a roof over their head

By being in prison

- – -

Many prisoners know

That as soon

As they become felons

And released

The possibility of them

Finding jobs are zilch

- – -

Every year with thousands

Of dollars spent

On each prisoner

There’s no rehabilitation

Programs that actually work

And the public continues

To pick up the tab

- – -

Some prisoners

Prefer to play the system

By clogging the judicial courts

With petty crimes

And returning time after time

For sentences

That come with a security blanket

- – -

I heard of a case

Of a certain fellow

Who on being released

On good behavior

Walked up to a policeman

And spat in his face

Only to be dragged into court

To be sentenced once again

The thought that a person would rather be in jail than free is sad, in deed. It just shows that our prison system isn’t designed to rehabilitate. It takes a strong mind and will to come out of that kind of situation with the made up mind to survive on the outside.

I hate to tell you this, but I thought when my mom died I would have to shoplift something to go to jail because I have such anxiety I cannot work and would not be able to support myself. I do NOT have to try and go to jail. I toldmy mom and she said my sister told the man who would be her husband if my parents cannot take care of me anymore I go live with her and her husband and my nephew pheww!!!!!

    Nicely written.

Some prisoners are not guilty- some are accused and thrown to jail without giving proper justice.

Sadly I’ve came across a few people who had a better life behind bars where all their friends were so the decision ot re-offend was not hard to make.

It is sorrowful to know such a condition of the individuals. :(

Lots of people who aren’t in prison sleeping on streets and not getting 3 squares a day. And the danger factor isn\’t much lower, either. There\’s no shame – seemingly – in the world anymore, so – why not?
good article, written in poetry style on a topic so serious…interesting!

The prison system needs to come up with serious programs to rehabilitate and work with outside companies that will hire felons upon release because it is probably too tough finding a job on their own and causes survivor mode to kick in and that means 3 meals and a roof in prison.
