A villanelle poem I was inspired to write. Happy holidays everyone!!

Christmas stockings hang above a fire
Awaiting a jolly man in a big, red suit
Bringing gifts little boys and girls desire.

Christmas stockings hang by the fire
Reindeer cookies and milk on a table
For the appetite of a man in red attire.

Bringing gifts little boys and girls desire
Santa’s Starbucks needs a warm-up brew
This jolly spirit never seems to grow tired.

Christmas stockings hang by the fire
Angela, hearing noises, sneaks downstairs
To get a peak at the bearded-man she admires.

Bringing gifts little boys and girls desire
Santa munches the cookies. *poof* he’s gone
Rudolph keeps Santa’s schedule to the wire.

Christmas stockings hang by the fire
Little children awake to a morning surprise
Bringing gifts little boys and girls desire
Christmas stockings hang by the fire.

Thanks! :) This is my favorite holiday, so I hope to write often this season.

I enjoyed not only your poem, but learning about a poetry form I’d never heard of. I had to go and look villanelle up on Wikipedia. Thanks.

Beautiful and vivid imagery of the magic of Christmas.
