Cinderella Syndrome a poem by Jennifer Jo Fay. A poem about the perfect girl, the perfect fairytale life and the perfect children. The perfect marriage and a fairytale that doesn’t really exist.
Cinderella Syndrome
Are you the girl who has the tiny foot
that fits that transparent glass slipper.
You know the slipper that in real life
would most likely break as soon as
you step into it.
Were you upset that you were not born
with the name Cinderella?
Or maybe you were Cindy and that is close enough.
Enough to give you the fairytale life?
Are you the girl who grew up thinking that you were
destined to live her magical life?
Was Prince Charming really all that he’s
cracked up to be? In real life we
know that no Prince Charming is designed
to be perfect.
As perfect doesn’t really exist.
Are you caught up in your Cinderella syndrome
where everything about your life must
be without flaws or else your
fairy tale has collapsed?
Are you the Cinderella princess
who thought she had it all just the way she wanted
and then, now she is in a damaged reality
because her fairytale dream dwindled into nothing.
And now she is living in a nightmare
because her Cinderella Syndrome
got way out of control.
