I wrote this for the Carolina Hurricane’s 10th anniversary in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ten years ago they were called the Hartford Whalers and in Connecticut. At this time Glen Wesley was the only Whaler still playing on the team.

Look at how the time has flown,

This team has come into its own,

As they left the whale up there,

Each one does play fair and square.

Now starting here ten years ago,

Things sure did begin very slow,

Both the team and fans traveled far,

That sure could make a long memoir.

Everyone watched as number ten retired,

And the longtime coach was fired,

Only one of them still plays on the ice,

Watch as his moves are very precise.

While they have been playing in this state,

Every player proved they’re first-rate,

The highest prize was won here,

People far away could hear the fans cheer.

I admit that I don’t know much about NHL but I really enjoyed your poem on them!
