Talking with fellow Trionder soloxen last night about religion, I later became inspired to write a poem about our universe. Particularly, about how everything forms a distinct pattern. All is cyclical, and often circular. Are we still in the process of creating God? What goes around comes around, they say. Circles and circles.

I see a pattern Everywhere:

Circles and globes (three dimensional circles);

Shiny rings of fire.

Countless manifestations of this same shape.

Star-spangled galaxies wheeling through the sky:

That half-globe dome.

Earth, in circular orbit (more or less) around the Sun,

Escorted by the Moon.

Days give way to seasons,

Repeating every year.

Groundhog Days becoming

Groundhog Creations

Perhaps.

The list seems endless:

Hopkins’ dapples,

Planets, craters, cyclones, anti-cyclones, sea currents,

Balls, apples, oranges, nuts, potatoes,

Teardrops, heads, faces, eyes, mouths,

Holes!

Coins, bin lids, and plates;

Sunflowers, daisies, pansies,

Rings of mushrooms,

Circling birds of prey,

A cat curled in a circle,

Like a foetus.

Life as we know it

Is a circle

And a cycle too.

Birth, Death, Blossom, Wilt.

Reincarnation?

Renewal?

Clock-faced Time itself.

Eternity might be a circle,

Infinity the same.

Maybe even God,

Some way.

Perhaps we still are building God,

For Him or Her to travel back through time

Like Doctor Who

To Create The Big Bang,

And form this expanding Universe,

Thus taking us full circle.

Or maybe the Universe will fold back in upon itself,

Producing yet one more Big Bang,

In an endless cycle,

Of Big Bangs,

Amongst this ever circling

Multiverse.

I think that was good Paul – however I have stated that I don’t get poetry, so my opinion does not mean a lot

Dont run yourself down thespeakman. Reaction is reaction, and if it is good then so much the better. I am going for the concept or vision here rather than trying to be lyrical in any way. Just hope that truth is beauty for most.

I never believed in religion, but if I was going to believe anything then this paragraph describes what I think is happening.

Cheers Lews, my most loyal fan. Glad we agree on this. Not sure how much support we would get, but once they thought the Earth was the centre of the solar system…

    Before all,thank you.
I can’t believe that I can be inspiration to 42 years older man.
Hope that I helped you.Nothing is a coincidence as this life.
Your poem is amazing and I like when somebody writes from the bottom of soul like you.
I’m going to bookmark this and I’ll visit this great work every day.
Thank you for making my life better. If you have more questions about religion and about space, big bang etc..send me message.
With lots of love, best regards. :)

Cheers soloxen. You will see that many of my pieces are religious in nature. Anything can indeed open up that vision, even an innocent looking chat.

Thanks Dishy – I would like to think you liked the references to astronomy.

it is monday. it has always been monday.
although the universe evolves in grand loops
infinitely beyond the scope of our understanding,
    it is still monday.
and for a while I was convinced it was tuesday,
that there would be a wednesday –
but right now I am for certain
    that it is always monday.
time cannot cease, only our perception thereof –
and what is death if not a freedom
from the constraint and influence of time?
we exist as individuals only momentarily in history,
but we exist collectively in the whole of time.
we exist, in a way beyond immediate sensory perception,
as a unity in the eternal monday.
this is why it is so important to us, while here,
to determine the true meaning of love, and to
find within ourselves its basic fundaments.
is it romantic that I should believe that any individual,
should they look deep enough into their own heart,
would find not a face or a person or a particular passion,
but rather that the most profound kind of love
    is that toward and between
    mankind and life generally?
hate, like fear, has really only itself as an appropriate end.
it is love and it is courage which account
for the privilege of our lives.

thank you for your poem. i’ve never seen god before as something more than a conceptual construct, but potentially also, a manifest construct. i will take these thoughts to bed tonight.

Er, WOW. Thanks for the Article yargold. Were you Bob Geldof in another life? Quite a Monday fixation. However, your values of Love and Life are impressive. Cheers again.

Good one Paul. Ground Hogs? Never thought of them working with the circular theme, but it fit.

  • PaulB on May 16, 2011

Thanks Annie. Seen the film then? Repeating day?

The bible says there is nothing new under the sun. Circles indeed. I enjoyed this – gets the brain functioning for me as well as you. Good job!
