Subtle Little Shift.

Closer now, than yesterday,
my heart can feel the call;
of love that’s coming to me,
from out beyond the wall.
It whispers my name softly,
and tells me of her love;
bids me fly straight to her arms,
fleetingly, like a dove.
I in hesitation held,
stubborn in this, my cell;
for though I longed to be free,
I kept my heart in hell.
She sang to me her soft song,
of love that would not end;
but, obstinace was my shield,
and I’m alone again.
And, as I stood there weary,
my spirit wracked with pain;
I heard that voice soft calling,
and begging me to change.
The power of that love song,
broke down those mighty walls;
and, now, just another man,
I freely heed her call.
