Poem by Mike Taylor.
I show nothing but sentiment, ‘fore we the perfect synthesis
In this life it’s so easy to run on, you were the periods to my sentences
Menacing is what the pain is, spinning is what my brain is
The picture that was painted never diminished, but the frame did
Taylor – the name that was supposed to be on the end of yours
My children were to be of the closest kin to yours
If my time’s not with you, I have no reason to spend it for
It’s like we solidified our building, but let cold air in the doors
And it didn’t freeze time – it just made us cold
It didn’t make us come together, it just made us old
And now I’m like knock-off shoes, I gotta fake my soul
Now I’m getting change ready for our time apart – I see it’s taking tolls
- But I guess that means the gate opens
It just feels like we lived a book and left the page open
…And I’m just tryna stop my head from hanging lower
The cold air’s coming through the windiow, I’m just looking for some closure
