Short poem attempting to describe the effect of thoughts on feelings.
COGNITION© April 12, 2010Richard O Harris
When I am feeling down and out
Always the one left without
I have to stop and ask if this thought is true?
Could it be I have pushed away
Those who would rather stay?
And, if so, why feel sorry for my self or blue?
It is not just these thoughts
I must questions as they are brought
But, if the feelings all thoughts cause are real?
Though I know others struggle too,
And this is not something that is new
Is is this lonely for all who also have to deal?
The answers often bring me back
To remember someone else’s lack
That is greater than mine seems to me now.
Then I am able to change my thinking
To someone else who may be sinking
So, I find I look for a way to help somehow.
And my thoughts go round and round
And my feelings go up and down
This is what is meant to be I suppose.
Each day continues for us all
I can only speak as I recall
This is my life, even if not the one I chose.
