Hope.
Twilight takes the day by surprise.
A jagged zigzagged pink purple band of color is
stamped across the darkening sky.
And the Natchez rolls by.
A boy stands effortlessly on one foot
atop a rope stretched betwixt two trees,
silhouette seemingly sandblasted across the same evening sky.
And the Natchez rolls by.
I limp to the water’s edge and sit on the stony step
trying to blend into the grass,
the rocks,
the air.
There’s a place for us.
A corner, a city, a country,
a whole world.
I know there’s a place for us.
I got the invitation like so many others
but I opened mine.
Please, open yours and
together we can go
to where there’s always a glorious
pink purple splash across the sky,
soulful silhouettes forever dance across the same sky,
and the Natchez keeps on rolling by.
