A poem about race relations in the past as it relates to the United States.

Color

I never understood our fascination with colors.

I could say that I would die for mother

But not because of loyalty to red or blue

Or failure to yield correctly at the request made after flashing red and white lights…but…would you?

I guess that depends on your color

We are infuriated by Hitler’s genocides and anti-Semitic heights

But don’t we do the same here with our blacks and whites

History always repeats itself but instead of religion…it is beliefs of supremacy

That depress our entities

Selfishly protecting the unspoken truths that knowledge is the key

Strategically planting seeds of ignorance

And intolerance

And we know that the fruit never falls to far from the tree

Because the roots are planted so deep within their family trees

That they can’t be swayed by mixes of reason because infectious ways have spread purely up to some leaves.

A potency

Represented by cycles that appear with abuse , infidelity, racism and in a lot of cases truths.

How many, appearing in the court of law, are found to be telling the truth?

Well, that depends on your color!

We talk about unity

Yet we remain separated and in some cases invisible…hidden behind unspoken of boundaries

We see cities divided with no plans of mending

Yet, everyone accepts this as their norm? Are you kidding!?!

Some of our actions do nothing but throw salt on our unhealed wounds

Like Kanye West

 :::smh:::poor Taylor shift :::smh:::

Acting a fool

Or Bernie Madoff playing us all…so smooth

But we know it was for the love of the green

You, maybe just as sly when the name of the game is greed

I agree…

Money is a necessity

But I have faith that He has a plan for me

I will be financially care-free

And that I believe!!

Funny how that has no color association

Well…at least not for me

Wow! This is so beautiful! Color shouldn’t divide us because we are all of the same kind and there’s just one God who made us. This is a powerful poem. Thank you for sharing it :)

Sometimes we blame the racists when the trouble lies deep within us. I understand your sentiments but at times inferiority complex on the part my black brethren has been their undoing. The law cant be lenient to us just because we are black. When we misbehave, when we peddle drugs and behave as if there is no tomorrow, we must be punished for it. There is a need to feel human first and black, white or yellow second. I do feel am just as good as any man can be, and nobody has the right to look down upon me, but some of my brothers want to misbehave in the name of being black and they give us a bad reputation, and prejudice sets in. Its good you have mentioned Kanye West. If being black means talking dirty and smoking weed, and drunk-driving and over-speeding, I refuse to be black!

There is definitely some deeply engrained bigotry and intolerance in our nation. I never understood why one would teach their children to hate. But SHILAHO has a point, too. Some of our brothers and sisters have simply given up the fight and stepped right into the trap of the racial stereotypes. I have always believed the best revenge you can have against those who expect you to fail is to succeed on every level.
